In a study published in European Psychiatry, Croissant et al. investigated the effects of quetiapine (Seroquel) in preventing relapse for people dependent on alcohol. Their case series of nine patients had a very positive response. In fact, a placebo-controlled trial is currently getting underway, as you can see here. The rub is that Seroquel will be used only to treat individuals with alcohol dependence with comorbid anxiety since, after all, Seroquel is the next great anti-anxiety medication.
