"Seems like something must have happened in 2006 to slow down Chuck's momentum..."
ReplyDeleteBeing the target of a witch hunt would have that sort of effect, don't you think?
It is both ironic and fitting that Nermeroff ended up at Miami. For years, Miami fielded football teams that were chock full of thugs, convicts, and sociopaths. But they won games and the university administration looked the other way. This is exactly what Miami is now doing by putting Nemeroff as the Head Coach of Psychiatry. You reap what you sow!
ReplyDeleteHey, CP, here's another eye opener:

Message from the Chairman
Coming Soon
That's not very inspiring. But let's give the guy a break -- he has been there only 4 months.
I counted 35 different companies, although some may be subsidiaries of others.
ReplyDelete35??!!
When on earth did he actually perform the duties his faculty position supposedly required?
I always used to teach that the main job of an academic consultant is to dissuade pharmaceutical corporations from wasting money on fads and quixotic ventures. Apparently Charles Nemeroff never understood that message. As I look at your long list of Nemeroff’s consulting relationships, I see a good deal of pharmaceutical bottom fishing (Cypress Biosciences, Corcept, and CeNeRx – the last of these is missing from the list) and failures to extinguish unproductive efforts in timely fashion (Merck, Neurocrine), and quite a bit of shilling through the medium of ghostwriting (GlaxoSmithKline, Cyberonics, Janssen) but I see nothing that ACRE and Thomas Stossel would ever be justified in lamenting the lack of.
ReplyDeleteso many whores for just 1 pimp, eh?
ReplyDeleteBy the way, has Philip Dawdy abandoned his site? No posts in over 6 weeks, and the one he last did had no bearing on mental health issues, so really none in 2 months.
I guess the topics at hand at these sites is too boring. Obamination-care has depleted the masses.
Doug: Witch hunt? Seriously? Just do a quick search at the top of this site for "Nemeroff", read through his sordid accomplishments, then tell me he was a victim. Gimme a break.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, how did he have time for those pesky full-time job duties...
For instance, just because a doctor calls himself a psychiatrist is no guarantee that he is actually competent to practice psychiatry. For example, legally, a proctologist, a medical doctor certified as a specialist only in disorders of the rectum, can label himself as a non-board certified psychiatrist and do adolescent counseling for drug problems or psychotherapy for suicidal patients-all, with no training in psychology.
ReplyDeleteCharles Nemeroff continues to serve on NARSAD's Scientific Council, according to the organization's Web site. Considering his track record, I was surprised to see his name on the list.
ReplyDeleteWhat exactly is NARSAD, anyway? And what is the purpose of the "Healthy Minds Across America" campaign?
For all the drug studies and consultants on boards of corporations, one would think that we have a great mental health system. Except we don't...
